Tenth Evening ride, to Colinton, under drookit conditions.

So, the plan had been "If it's a nice bright evening, we'll head up to the edge of the Pentlands. " . But it was in fact 'orrible and so the ride was curtailed. Four of us met at the startpoint and set off via the Conference centre, Fountainbridge and Morrison St to the Dalry Rd, then Russell Rd and Roseburn park, giving access the the Water of Leith (WOL) path at Pansy Walk.
The WOL is now fairly joined up Southwards from this point, and we tracked it across Balgeen Rd and Gorgie Rd to the WOL visitor centre, a brief break climbing the A70 to gain the necessary altitude, and re-entered the WOL Path near Kingsknowe. Following Southwards still, we found the surface relatively firm despite the pouring rain. At any rate, we weren't knee deep in mud, and soon we came to the railway tunnel and then a quick left into Spylaw Park. Climbing past the Spylaw tavern, which was emitting raucous music, we commenced the return loop which took us to Colinton Rd and then Redford Rd. Turning left onto the back roads enabled us to us join with the Braid Burn. The paths near Firhill School then led to Greenbank. One chap left at Greenbank Rd, and the ride continued briefly into Braidburn park, then ended near Hermitage Drive.
A nice ride, and it just goes to show, that after the first five minutes in rain, you don't get any wetter, and you can still see a fair bit even when rain is cascading down your face and rushing past your ankles. One of the chaps said you have to earn your beer, and I think I have now earned a whole summer's worth ;-))
Now let me see who can mint us four medals on the cheap...
